Transformations in Poland: Cities Actively Engaging in Urban Water Management

During the presentation, I will present cities that have already implemented stormwater management strategies, those currently in the process of implementation, and municipalities that will begin their projects in the coming months. I will show what determines success and how to translate analytics and concepts into financing and execution in a practical and straightforward way.

How can we effectively diagnose the problems that genuinely affect residents’ quality of life and turn them into concrete investments that deliver measurable results and improve urban space, making it more resilient and climate-friendly? During the presentation, I will demonstrate what the entire process looks like in practice: from catchment analysis and identification of drainage system overloads, through concept development and preparation of effective funding applications, to securing financing and implementing investments on site.

This structured cooperation pathway helps reduce flooding and surface water overflows, relieve stormwater drainage systems, and implement retention and blue-green solutions that truly enhance the quality of public space. Ten years of RetencjaPL’s work reflect experience gained through cooperation with dozens of Polish cities.
